Harriet Hancock LGBT Center

The Harriet Hancock LGBT Center in Columbia, SC offers comprehensive support services and resources designed to meet the evolving needs of the LGBTQ community and its allies. Since 1993, the center has provided education, social support, and access to vetted LGBTQ-affirming providers including medical, behavioral, and mental health professionals throughout South Carolina and surrounding areas. The center maintains an extensive resource guide connecting community members with affirming services and organizations. On-site programming includes peer-led social events and educational workshops tailored for different age groups. The Youth OUTLOUD program serves younger community members through events like Queer Prom held twice monthly, while Queer Collective provides activities for adults 18 and older. The center also hosts popular recurring events including First Sunday Supper, the longest-running monthly gathering, alongside workshops and the Pop-Up Closet initiative. Beyond scheduled programming, the Harriet Hancock LGBT Center serves as a welcoming community space where visitors can relax, work, study in the lending library, or utilize meeting rooms during operating hours. As a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization headquartered in Columbia's Midlands region, the center functions as the central hub for LGBT activity and serves as the headquarters for the South Carolina Pride Movement.
