About PFLAG Abilene - Big Country
PFLAG of the Big Country is all about building bridges in our communities. By providing support, education and advocacy on numerous levels, we seek to bridge the gaps in the lives of families, in political arenas, in religious groups, in order that we might provide understanding on human sexuality and gender identity and secure equal and civil rights. PFLAG of the Big Country currently serves and has connections with those in the following counties: Brown, Nolan, Jones, Eastland, Comanche, Callahan, Shackelford, and Tom Green. We provide additional support and advocacy in the following counties: Young, Throckmorton, Haskell, Knox, Stonewall, Fisher, Scurry, Mitchell, Coke, Runnels, Coleman, Erath, and Somervell.
PFLAG" is Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays. We are a national support, education and advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people, their families, friends and allies. With 200,000 members and supporters, and local affiliates in more than 500 communities across the U.S. and abroad, PFLAG is the largest grassroots-based family organization of its kind. PFLAG is a non-profit organization and is not affiliated with any religious or political institutions.
PFLAG supports LGBT people, their families and friends locally and nationally by providing PFLAG chapter helplines, support group meetings and resources. PFLAG also educates families and communities on sexual orientation, gender identity and LGBT issues. Local PFLAG chapters educate their communities through a variety of projects while PFLAG National continues to provide fair and accurate information about LGBT people, their loved ones, and the unique challenges they face. PFLAG also advocates for equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people on local, state, and national levels.
