About PFLAG Akron

We are families, friends, allies, and LGBTQ people united together and committed to advancing equality through peer support, education, and advocacy. This chapter is proudly located in Akron, Ohio.

PFLAG Akron envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed. We achieve these goals through education, advocacy, and support. We meet people where they are and accept that people come from different backgrounds, religions, and political affiliations, and we treat everyone with respect. Our meetings are held in a church, but we are not affiliated with any religion. Our meetings are confidential. We open every meeting with these words and are committed to creating a safe and empowering environment. We are an all-volunteer, nonprofit organization founded in 1981, largely through the efforts of one Akron mother and a gay professor at Kent State University. Our chapter is the oldest in Ohio, and a part of the national PFLAG organization with a network of 400+ chapters.
