About PFLAG Greater Lansing

PFLAG: Uniting people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) with families and friends.

PFLAG is the first and largest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) people, their parents and families, and allies. With nearly 400 chapters and 250,000 members and supporters crossing multiple generations of families in major urban centers, small cities, and rural areas across America, PFLAG is committed to creating a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed.

PFLAG envisions a world where diversity is celebrated and all people are respected, valued, and affirmed inclusive of their sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression.

Our mission is to build on a foundation of loving families united with LGBTQ+ people and allies who support one another, and to educate ourselves and our communities to speak up as advocates until all hearts and minds respect, value and affirm LGBTQ people.

Some people have asked what a PFLAG chapter does and, like everything, it depends on the individuals involved. Normally, we meet regularly as a group and offer support to LGBT people who may be having difficulty coming out to their parents. We likewise offer support to the families of LGBT children, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends and help them through the sometimes difficult process of acceptance. We share our own experiences and show them the power of love supersedes everything else.

Some PFLAG chapters reach out into the local community seeking places – churches, schools, businesses, and the media – to talk to peers about the love we have for our children and their special circumstances. We advocate equality for our LGBT family members and friends. We act as a much needed resource for anyone who might have conflict or confusion about their loved ones.
