PFLAG San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander Chapter
About PFLAG San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander Chapter
San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander PFLAG is a support group for Asian-Pacific Islander (API) gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgenders (LGBT), as well as for their parents, families, and friends. The group began meeting in April 2012 as a satellite program of PFLAG- Pasadena. In May 2013, we became our own chartered chapter; the first independent API PFLAG chapter in the nation.
We hope that you will benefit by:
- increasing your awareness of other LGBTQ Asian-Americans, Pacific-Islanders, and South Asian organizations on a local, statewide, and national level
- gaining access to online resources we have gathered and using the services we offer
- finding a place where you and your family can dialogue in the comfort of safe spaces that understand your culture, language, and/or faith
- interacting with an accepting and gentle group of folks who have been through similar journeys of coming out, acceptance, and acculturation.
PFLAG San Gabriel Valley Asian Pacific Islander accomplishes the vision and mission of PFLAG National in promoting the health and well-being of LGBT individuals, their families, and friends through support, education and advocacy.
Unique to our organization is that we address the culture-specific needs of the Asian-American, Pacific-Islander, East Asian, and South Asian people. We foster inter-generational dialogue; and when needed, provide language assistance.
Our vision is to promote inter-generational and inter-ethnic dialogue among our Asian, Asian-American, Pacific-Islander, Southeast Asian, and South Asian parents, families, and their lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender children, family members, and friends. That with ongoing conversations in safe spaces, our voices will be ever stronger; be heard loud and clear; and that love prevails.
