About Rainbow Families

Since 1998 – Rainbow Families provides education, resources, and support services for LGBTQ+ parents, families, and parents-to-be. Our first meetings as Rainbow Families DC began in 1988; we formalized our status as a 501(c)3 non profit organization in 2008, and serve an ever-growing and diverse community of LGBTQ+ families, not only in the DC region but nationally. We connect with over 10,000 each month through our membership, communications channels, and our signature social and educational programs.

In 2019 Rainbow Families was named “One of the Best” nonprofit organizations by the Catalogue for Philanthropy. That honor has been repeated in 2020, 2021 and 2022.

Rainbow Families is a small, community based organization, led by an engaged volunteer Board of Directors, small staff, and numerous volunteers & interns for which we are especially grateful.
